Discover one of the most remote and spectacular landscapes of the Peruvian Andes on this Quelccaya Trek 4 Days, a 4-day experience towards the majestic Quelccaya Ice Cap, the largest tropical glacier in the world. The adventure begins in the high Andean community of Pacchanta, famous for its hot springs and privileged views of the imposing Ausangate mountain, considered one of the most important sacred mountains in the Andes, marking the start of an unforgettable trek through nature.
From there, the route continues through the breathtaking Ausangate Seven Lakes Circuit, always accompanied by the dominant presence of the Ausangate snow-capped peak, where turquoise, emerald, and deep blue hues create a unique landscape surrounded by glaciers and snow-capped summits. As you trek, you’ll enter increasingly remote areas, passing through Sorapata, an isolated valley where nature is at its purest, home to alpacas, vicuñas, and condors, before arriving at the community of Phinaya, one of the most traditional and least visited in the region, nestled at the foot of the Ausangate mountain range.
The highlight of the Quelccaya Trek 4 Days Ausangate is reaching the glacier, an imposing sea of ice that offers breathtaking landscapes and a unique experience in contact with the extreme nature of the Andes. This trek combines the best of the Ausangate mountain range with the majesty of the glacier, offering an authentic, uncrowded experience deeply connected to Andean culture and the sacred environment surrounding Ausangate.
Today we will start the day at 5:00 a.m., picking you up from your hotel and traveling by private transport to the village of Pacchanta (4,300 m – 14,108 ft). Along the way, we will stop at the Huacarpay Lagoon viewpoint, offering spectacular opportunities to capture photos of its vibrant, colorful landscapes. We will then continue our journey to Pacchanta, where we will enjoy a delicious breakfast while admiring the snow-capped peaks of the sacred Ausangate rising in the distance, marking the beginning of our unforgettable Quelccaya Trek 4 Days.
After breakfast, we will relax in the famous Pacchanta hot springs before starting our three-hour uphill hike toward the first of the Seven Ausangate Lagoons, where we will stop to enjoy a well-deserved lunch surrounded by breathtaking high-Andean scenery. This is where the true spirit of the Quelccaya Trek 4 Days begins to unfold, as we move deeper into remote landscapes filled with glacial lakes and dramatic mountain views.

After a nutritious breakfast, we will begin our gradual ascent through breathtaking Andean landscapes, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and vast open valleys, until we reach the Qampa area, where we will stop for a well-deserved lunch.
After recharging our energy, we will continue deeper into the heart of the Andes. This is a moment to fully connect with nature: breathe deeply, open your mind to the immense silence, stretch your arms to the sky, and release any physical or mental burdens as we traverse this sacred environment.
In the afternoon, we will reach the Qampa Pass (5100 m), a high point surrounded by an imposing mountain landscape. There, we will participate in a traditional Andean ceremony with coca leaves, honoring the sacred Apus (mountain spirits) and the energy of these majestic mountains. From the pass, we begin our descent to our camp in the Sorapata Valley, where we will rest, have dinner, and recover for the next stage of this unforgettable hike.
This day begins early, as usual, with a cup of coca leaf tea or hot coffee served in your tent, followed by a freshly prepared breakfast from our cook to give you energy for the day.

Cusco is a very old city, therefore it has many narrow and cobbled streets. Some hotels and Airbnb may be located on streets with no car access or on long, steep slopes, making it difficult to carry luggage. We strongly recommend that you book an accommodation with good access.
Average daytime temperatures in Cusco and surrounding areas typically range between 55º and 75º F (13º–24ºC), while nighttime temperatures drop to around 40º–50º F (4º–10ºC). However, much of this itinerary takes place deep in the Andes mountains, where weather conditions can change rapidly. At higher elevations, especially above 4,500 m (14,764 ft), nighttime temperatures often fall to 30º–40º F (-1º to 4ºC), with frequent frost forming on tents and open plains.
During the dry season, days are generally clear and sunny, with clouds building up in the afternoon and occasional light rain or snow showers, particularly at higher passes. Morning temperatures at altitude can range between 35º–45º F (2º–7ºC), often feeling colder due to wind chill. In shoulder months such as April and November, there is a slightly higher chance of precipitation, although continuous rain throughout the day is uncommon.
This trek reaches extreme altitudes, crossing mountain passes above 5,000 m (16,400 ft), including remote areas of the Ausangate region and approaching the Quelccaya Ice Cap, the largest tropical glacier in the world. Because of these conditions, it is essential to bring proper high-altitude gear and cold-weather clothing suitable for the Quelccaya Trek 4 Days, ensuring comfort and safety throughout this high-Andean expedition.
Group tours are made up of different types of people. Physical conditions and ages can vary. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you also agree that some people may be faster or slower than you. Therefore, everyone can go at their own pace on the route. It may be the case that a group wants to modify the route; however, it will be the guide who decides, after consulting with all the participants, if such modifications can be made.
It is very important to be well acclimatized to the altitude before exerting yourself on a hike. We recommend that you arrive in Cusco at least 2 or 3 days before the trek begins to help you acclimatize and avoid possible problems with altitude sickness during the trek.
Suppose you have already been to another area of Peru at a high altitude before arriving in Cusco. In that case, we still recommend that you have a full day in Cusco to rest, recover from your trip and fully enjoy your trek and have a unique experience.
Of course! During the trip, your main luggage can be stored in our office (you can coordinate during the day of the briefing or by email) or at your hotel, both for free.
Any equipment you don’t need on the trek can be safely stored at your hotel. Almost all hotels will offer this service. Do not leave valuables with your bags, put them in the hotel safe and get an itemized receipt (in the unlikely event of theft, many insurance companies require you to have a copy of the receipt with all items). It’s best to put items like credit cards in a sealed and signed envelope for added peace of mind.
Strikes and demonstrations are often frequent in Peru, and this can interrupt some of our planned tours. They can block the roads and take control of the railroad tracks. However, we will try to keep your tour as planned, even if it means leaving the night before your scheduled date. In these circumstances, tours can also be canceled. In case of changes or cancellations, all situations will be coordinated with you by our operations department. Your safety is our top priority and decisions will be made appropriately.
You are responsible for your personal belongings during the Ausangate to Quelccaya Trek 4 Days. Please pay attention to where you leave your belongings and remember to take everything once you leave your bus, tents, and restaurants.
