Embark on an exciting day trip from Cusco to Lake Humantay on a private service or group tour service any day of the week and experience the hidden gem of Peru’s most outstanding region. It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling alone, with a partner, or as part of a larger group; we can accommodate you. Do not miss the opportunity to see this glorious natural wonder when you are in Cusco.
During this 1-day adventure to Lake Humantay from Cusco, we will witness incredible landscapes as we make our way to the starting point of the trek. We’ll enjoy views of the Salkantay Glacier peak and the Vilcabamba mountain range as you marvel at how far you’ve traveled.
At the impressive Humantay glacial lake Or Laguna Humantay in Spanish, we will take some time to meditate in the tranquility of this magical place and immerse ourselves in the fantastic views of the mountains, the exotic flora and fauna, the glacial snow-capped Humantay mountains in the background, and its surrounding landscapes. They belong on the cover of National Geographic magazine.
Our exciting day starts at 4:00 am, our private transportation picks you up from your accommodation. We will start by driving to Mollepata for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, where we will stop to have a delicious breakfast and enjoy the mountains in the morning light. This is a great opportunity to get some memorable photos.
Once we are full, we will continue on our transport to Soraypampa (3,900 m / 12,795 ft), where you will begin to feel the powerful presence of the glaciers. You are sure to be impressed by their haunting snowy faces that defy any force or evil. After listening to brief instructions from your guide, we will begin our 2-hour ascent to the beautiful Humantay Lake.
Remember that you will be walking on very rocky terrain, so using a cane is a great idea. Take your time, walk slowly, get some rest, and try to drink plenty of fluids; it will be at a high altitude, so you should take things slow.
After the effort of walking uphill, you will enjoy the most incredible reward. Hidden among the rocky landscape, the impressive Humantay Lake gradually appears. This beautiful body of turquoise water originates from the same snow that covers the mountain, which melts and drains away. Hike and make an effort to go a bit higher up the surrounding rocky slopes for better views. The higher you are, the more turquoise the water will look and you will be able to enjoy the best panoramic view.
Being so close to the mountains will really shake you and you will probably understand why they are so sacred in the Andean culture. Our guide will perform a simple ritual and thank nature (pacha mama) using coca leaves.
It will be about an hour and a half downhill to return to Soraypampa. From this point we board our private transport to Mollepata where our lunch will be, and once finished we return to the city of Cusco.

Cusco is a very old city, therefore it has many narrow and cobbled streets. Some hotels and Airbnb may be located on streets with no car access or on long, steep slopes, making it difficult to carry luggage. We strongly recommend that you book an accommodation with good access.
We recommend drinking plenty of water and drinking coca tea that can be ordered wherever you want, it can also be prepared with boiled water and dried coca leaves. At least one day before the humantay lake full day we recommend you eat light foods and if you have any medication prescribed by your doctor you can take it and the best thing you can do is keep in mind that you will be fine.
Group tours are made up of different types of people. Physical conditions and ages can vary. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you also agree that some people may be faster or slower than you. Therefore, everyone can go at their own pace on the route. It may be the case that a group wants to modify the route; however, it will be the guide who decides, after consulting with all the participants, if such modifications can be made.
Of course! During the trip, your main luggage can be stored in our office (you can coordinate during the day of the briefing or by email) or at your hotel, both for free.
Any equipment you don’t need on the trek can be safely stored at your hotel. Almost all hotels will offer this service. Do not leave valuables with your bags, put them in the hotel safe and get an itemized receipt (in the unlikely event of theft, many insurance companies require you to have a copy of the receipt with all items). It’s best to put items like credit cards in a sealed and signed envelope for added peace of mind.

In case of changes or cancellations, all situations will be coordinated with you by our operations department. Your safety is our top priority and decisions will be made appropriately.

My friends and I hired PERU TREK for a tour to the Humantay Lagoon, and everything was great, the service was first class, they took great care of us. Our guide Mario was excellent! He was very attentive to all the details, the driver Mr. Jhon was also very attentive and an excellent driver, and very punctual to pick us up at the meeting point. The tour is amazing and well worth the experience, whether it’s walking to the venue or renting a horse. It’s amazing the experience you get after this hike. Arriving at the Humantay Lagoon leaves you speechless, seeing its crystal clear waters and its imposing snow-capped peak.
I did the humantay tour with a highly recommended travel agency (PERU TREK), I had a pleasant experience on this tour, Our guide Simon was excellent in all aspects, he was always very attentive and receptive to all our questions, I definitely liked his professionalism, seriousness and punctuality.
Knowing the Humantay Lagoon was a unique and unforgettable experience, it is an incredible place, the atmosphere of the mountains added to the view of both the lagoon and the snowy… indescribable… as always the photos that can be seen outside there are not they do him justice.
I rarely write reviews but felt like I had to for this tour. We had Alex as our guide for the day, and he makes a world of difference when his guide loves the land he travels through and genuinely cares about the people in the group. My experience with PERU TREK and Alex, especially for this tour, was excellent and I would recommend them to any visitor with a genuine interest in all the region has to offer.
